Fascination of Space Flight - Working in the Control Center
Space flight projects rely in a very special way on team spirit and the motivating passion of all people involved – in development as well as in operations. The Control Room Positions are:
|COL FLIGHT||The Columbus Flight Director is the head of the Columbus Flight Control Team and is responsible for the European complement of ISS operations, including communications between the astronauts and the control center. This position ensures 24/7 the safety of the crew, proper Columbus operations and keeps the mission objectives in mind. The flight director is in direct contact with his NASA counterpart in Houston and with the various European control centers that support the experiments in the Columbus module.|
|STRATOS||The STRATOS takes care of the Columbus Systems, which includes the Life support system, Thermal Control System, Power Distribution System, Data Management, Communications and Video. The position is staffed 24/7 and makes sure that the module is in good shape and supports the experiments in an effective
|The Columbus Operations and Mission Execution Timeliner is part of the European Planning and Increment Coordination Team. This position is on-console during office worktimes and supporting the Operations Planning for Columbus and European experiments. The EPIC also performs special tasks for realtime experiment support.|
|COSMO||Logistics, mechanical activities
|EUROCOM||The EUROCOM ensures Voice communication with the ISS crew for the European operations. The position is staffed by EAC in Cologne. The Columbus Flight Director takes over the crew communication when EUROCOM is not available.|
|ASP||The Activity Specialist (ASP) is supporting the STRATOS tasks for specific tasks that require high expense. The on-console presence depends on the timeline needs.|
